I can't truly call this a story. It is simply a reflection of times spent with my dad. My husband and my dad had birthdays very close together. This year was my husband's 50th birthday on February 2. Dad's birthday was February 3. We always had celebrations close together for the two of them. Ten years ago, for my husband's 40th birthday, I arranged for a surprise party for my husband. To help me with my planned surprise, I suggested that dad (Garnet) go to the movies with my husband, brother and son as a birthday outing. While they were at the movies, family from Toronto and Montreal arrived, friends gathered together, balloons were inflated with helium and cake was set up in the front room. My dad helped me coordinate this so well that when my husband arrived home, he was truly surprised. Dad would help with so many things - whether for me or for my husband - I truly appreciated him so much! I miss the times together and am thinking of him at this time of year, when we would have celebrated his birthday. He would have been 85 on this past Friday. I wish we could have had a big celebration for dad's 80th in 2007, but we never got the chance. He missed the day by two weeks.
